Money & self-dealing
Income in office from the president's own financial products
Income received while in office from a financial instrument the president's own ventures sell to the public, whenever it launched. Book royalties aside, no modern president crossed this line; every predecessor either blinded his assets or held only the market. In his own June 2026 disclosure, the president reported roughly $1.4 billion of 2025 income from three crypto ventures: a crypto firm launched during the 2024 campaign, a memecoin launched three days before the inauguration, and a stablecoin launched in office whose regulator his administration set.
What made up the $1.4 billion
| Product | Launched | 2025 income | Structure |
|---|---|---|---|
| $TRUMP memecoin | Jan 17, 2025 (3 days pre-inauguration) | $636M | Licensing royalties to a Trump entity; family entities hold ~80% of supply |
| World Liberty Financial | Sep 2024 (campaign) | ~$591M | ~$526M token sales + ~$65M equity sale; family takes ~75% of token proceeds |
| USD1 stablecoin (holding co.) | Mar 2025 | $197M | Disclosed as income from Stablecoin Holdco LLC; Bloomberg describes it as an equity sale |
| Total, 2025 crypto income | ~$1.4B | A straight sum of the disclosure's crypto line items |
The figure is 2025 income only, and a floor: House Oversight Democrats' running tracker put realized family profits at ~$2.25B and total wealth (including paper gains) at up to ~$9.7B by Jan 2026, with at least ~$436M from foreign interests. Trump Media's separate bitcoin treasury and the pre-existing DJT stock are excluded. Whether the two equity-sale lines include the $187M stake purchase shown on the foreign-money chart is not established, so the two charts should not be added together.
The policy layer
Through 2025–26 the administration took a series of actions that benefited the products or their partners: the SEC dropped enforcement cases against Coinbase, Kraken, Ripple, and Binance (the last a World Liberty stablecoin partner); an executive order created a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (Mar 2025); the GENIUS Act established the federal stablecoin framework USD1 operates within (Jul 2025); the president pardoned Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (Oct 2025) after a $2 billion deal routed through USD1; and the OCC gave preliminary conditional approval to a national trust bank charter for World Liberty's firm (Aug 2026), the first for a sitting president's family company. No court has adjudicated any of it as a conflict violation, and the president is exempt from the criminal conflict-of-interest statute.
The defense reading
The income is legal and fully disclosed on the official form. These are family-run ventures said to be managed at arm's length; the crypto industry welcomed the administration's regulatory clarity as an industry-wide good, not a favor; and a pro-crypto agenda was an explicit 2024 campaign promise, so the policy is a platform delivered, not a bespoke handout.
The critic reading
Buyers of these tokens can be anonymous or foreign, so purchases can function as an untraceable channel of payment to the sitting president; a majority of the top memecoin holders were likely foreign, and a dinner rewarded the largest ones. Regulators his appointees control dropped cases against business partners, one of whom he later pardoned. Critics call the policy-and-profit overlap the most brazen self-dealing the financial system has seen.
