Government shutdown days per presidency
Lapses in appropriations, in days, as tallied by the House Historian's office. Because Congress passes funding, each bar carries its government-control annotation.

Combined, one president accounts for 158 of the 200 shutdown days since 1993, and holds the three longest funding lapses in history (76 days, 43 days, 34 days), all occurring while his own party controlled both chambers. Fairness note cutting his way: the 60-vote Senate threshold meant opposition votes were still required to fund the government in 2025 and 2026; blame allocation is genuinely contested, while the day-count moves only by a day or so with the counting convention.
